What actually works
The changes that drop your AI score are structural, not cosmetic. Here is what makes the biggest difference:
1. Break up your sentence lengths
Read your text out loud. If every sentence takes about the same amount of time to say, that is a problem. Cut some in half. Merge others. Make it feel uneven. That unevenness is what human writing actually looks like.
2. Cut the filler phrases
Go through your text and delete anything that sounds like a corporate press release. "It is important to note that." "This serves as evidence of." "Moving forward." These phrases do nothing except signal to a detector that a model wrote this. Cut them and say what you mean directly.
3. Add a real opinion somewhere
AI writing avoids taking sides. It presents both perspectives and leaves the reader to decide. Real writing takes a position. Even one sentence where you actually say what you think changes how the whole piece reads.
4. Fix the phrases at the word level
This is the hardest part to do manually. Specific words and phrases within your sentences are what get flagged. "Utilize" instead of "use." "Leverage" instead of "apply." "Comprehensive" anything. These need to be replaced with simpler, more direct alternatives. One by one.
